Calibrate the line when the distance to the mouse cursor is not constant
We have released a new version of Line Reader in which we have addressed the issue with the variable distance between the line and mouse cursor which happens on systems with certain resolution/text size settings. The application now has a 'Calibrate Line And Mouse Cursor' link in the 'Line Reader' tab. Press that link, calibrate the distance between the line and the mouse cursor and then press the Lock button to lock the calibrated settings. Once you do that, the issue should be fixed and the calibrated settings will be saved when you close the application. You can download the application using any of the following URLs, depending on the number of bits your operating system is running on:
32 bits:

64 bits:

The downloads include a malicious tool detected by Kaspersky
VHO:Hoax.Win32.DeceptPCClean.nki
Basically a bundled PC Cleaning software that installs an unwanted app.
Kaspersky deletes the app everytime.

The application has a section which can be enabled or disabled for allowing recording of key strokes across applications. This is used for controlling different actions of Line Reader when it is not the active application (like increasing/decreasing the length/width of the line, or starting/stopping the line but many other line actions as well).
Perhaps this is what the antivirus system is detecting. That is however a false positive.

So the previous version didn't have this feature?
Even TrendMicro is flagging this as being Dangerous Malware. Can a version be made without this feature?
I'm running a 4K monitor now and it shows the red line way way below the cursor. Then when it moves to another monitor adjacent, the line is in a different spot.

We have scanned all installed files and they were all OK meaning the calibration feature is not an issue.
We have also updated the installers and it seems the number of detections is now lower, only 2 from MaxSecure and SecureAge APEX. However these two systems detect even an installer which doesn't do anything (we created a dummy installer which doesn't install any files). So these are two false positives.
Could you please try downloading the application again?
Regarding the position of the line: did you run the Calibration process first?
