Hey, I just bought a copy of WebTools, been using the older version for a while now and find it quite handy... however there is one thing I would like to see, and that is an option for showing Span borders (like the Div borders)

Also, how come the app doesnt have an icon?

Jim,

Thanks for the great suggestion. If you close your version of WebToolsPro and open it up again you'll find the a "Span borders" button has been added to the "Change Page" menu. Please keep the ideas comming, if I'm around I'll be able to add in a button pretty quick in most cases, and as WebTools Pro is an internet application you can use the new tool as soon as I'm done.

I totally missed the application icon. I'll be sure and add that in. Tahnks agian.

Thanks, that?s great...
Just been testing it at Amazon.com (they have tables, div and span blocks etc so its a pretty decent place to test)
Anyway, I noticed that you can toggle show "borders" for most elements, but there are four buttons that just multiply each time you click them... "Show hidden blocks", "Hidden characters", "Number table rows" and "Sort tables" (those are the four that I can see anyway) do this, is it not possible to toggle them as well? (and maybe Hide/Remove images should be toggleable as well?)

Maybe I am just rushing you and you haven?t got around to coding them completely yet, or there is some reason why you did it this way, if so I apologise

Jim,

Good suggestions. I've made the images, hidden block and hidden fields toggleable. As for they other buttons they're a little trickier to remove. I've added a confirmation so that if you click the buttons again you will be asked if you want to refresh the page. The reasons for doing this are mainly to keep the code simple, each time i add something to a page I introduce the possibility for errors which I'd rather avoid. Let me know if this is really annoying to use and I'll see if I can come up with a better solution.

I'd be interested as to which of the reports you find most useful, my logs seem to indicate that Images and Scripts are popular.

thanks for the feedback, keep it comming.

I think its better this way, the popups may be a minor irritant but less so than the way it was done before, and I don?t really use these particular buttons that much anyway...

The things I used most in the old version are "Image borders", "Cell borders", "Table borders", "Div Borders", "Expand all" and "Resize"
In this version I will probably be using... "Scripts/Scriptpad", "Hide/Remove images", "Span borders", "Show hidden blocks/fields", "Info tooltips", "Sort tables", "Toggle CSS", "Show anchors", and the new "Resize" buttons
The "Characters lookup" will probably be quite handy now and then, will save me having to look for characters in my reference books
Although I do validate my pages, I would probably not remember to use the "Validate" tab in WebTools

One more little niggle... the script page used to put each line of a script on a new line, now it seems to leave them all on one line which makes it hard to read

I cant think of anything new I would like adding just yet, but I'm sure I will think of something when I am scripting next ;)

Thanks for the feedback Jim. I appriciate it.

I see what you mean about the scripts. I added word wrapping, and I think i should add a "Toggle Word Wrap" button.

OK, next request :)

Would it be possible to make the app remember where it was last? for example if you have two monitors and you use it on the left of the screen instead of the right, it will open in the position you closed it in last... I am asking because I have dual head (two monitors) and I tend to have the browser on the left screen, and various tools etc on the right screen, so I would like to be able to get WebTool to open on my secondary monitor if I can... maybe thats just me being lazy though

Certainly possible to remember the last place when the app closes. That one is already on my list!

If you download the application again you'll find that it does now have an icon.

I would like to see wider text boxes when I'm looking at the node tree, it would be nice to see them resize with the window so that I could maximize the window and have them be as wide as possible.

Also the Events bit only seems to apply to elements that were written to the page on initial load. It doesn't seem to report on new elements written to the page using javascript since the page has loaded. Am I missing something?

It would also be helpful to me if Watch was renamed to DOM Watch as there was a little confusion on what exactly the difference was until I read the help.

My last request would be a button that lets me open the Parsed HTML in NotePad or something so that I can save it and look at it in an editor with Syntax highlighting.

GREAT TOOL!

All great ideas eric, I'll make sure that they get included in the next round of updates.

The Events does currently scan through the html and would not pick up on dynamically assigned events. I'll see if it can be improved.
